Description

A fun, spooky twist on classic mac and cheese, colored eerie green and mixed with creepy add-ins for a perfect Halloween dish.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz elbow macaroni
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Green food coloring
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup broccoli florets (optional for “witch warts”)
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives (optional for “eyeballs”)
  • 1/2 cup peas (optional for “swamp bubbles”)

Instructions

  1. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk for 1 minute to create a roux.
  3. Slowly whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened.
  4. Add the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, stirring until melted.
  5. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  6. Add green food coloring until you achieve a spooky, bright witchy green.
  7. Stir in the cooked pasta until evenly coated.
  8. Fold in broccoli, olives, or peas if using, for extra Halloween-themed “creepy bits.”
  9. Serve warm and enjoy your spooky mac & cheese.

Notes

  • Adjust the shade of green by adding more or less food coloring.
  • Use white cheddar for an even brighter color effect.
  • Top with crushed cheese crackers dyed black with food coloring for a cauldron-ash effect.
