Description
A fun, spooky twist on classic mac and cheese, colored eerie green and mixed with creepy add-ins for a perfect Halloween dish.
Ingredients
- 12 oz elbow macaroni
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- Green food coloring
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup broccoli florets (optional for “witch warts”)
- 1/2 cup sliced black olives (optional for “eyeballs”)
- 1/2 cup peas (optional for “swamp bubbles”)
Instructions
- Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk for 1 minute to create a roux.
- Slowly whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened.
- Add the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, stirring until melted.
- Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add green food coloring until you achieve a spooky, bright witchy green.
- Stir in the cooked pasta until evenly coated.
- Fold in broccoli, olives, or peas if using, for extra Halloween-themed “creepy bits.”
- Serve warm and enjoy your spooky mac & cheese.
Notes
- Adjust the shade of green by adding more or less food coloring.
- Use white cheddar for an even brighter color effect.
- Top with crushed cheese crackers dyed black with food coloring for a cauldron-ash effect.
