Description

A classic Southern comfort dish featuring warm, flaky biscuits smothered in rich, creamy sausage gravy.

Ingredients

  • 8 homemade or store-bought biscuits
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt (more to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bake biscuits according to package directions or prepare homemade biscuits. Set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage, breaking it apart as it browns.
  3. Once cooked, add butter to the pan and let it melt into the sausage.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir to coat. Cook for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Slowly pour in the milk while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  6. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer until the gravy thickens, 3–5 minutes.
  7. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes if using.
  8. Spoon the sausage gravy over warm biscuits and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use spicy sausage for extra flavor.
  • If gravy becomes too thick, add more milk to reach desired consistency.
  • Serve with scrambled eggs or hash browns for a full breakfast.
