Description
A classic Southern comfort dish featuring warm, flaky biscuits smothered in rich, creamy sausage gravy.
Ingredients
- 8 homemade or store-bought biscuits
- 1 lb breakfast sausage
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1/2 tsp salt (more to taste)
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Bake biscuits according to package directions or prepare homemade biscuits. Set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage, breaking it apart as it browns.
- Once cooked, add butter to the pan and let it melt into the sausage.
- Sprinkle flour over the sausage and stir to coat. Cook for 1–2 minutes.
- Slowly pour in the milk while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer until the gravy thickens, 3–5 minutes.
- Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes if using.
- Spoon the sausage gravy over warm biscuits and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use spicy sausage for extra flavor.
- If gravy becomes too thick, add more milk to reach desired consistency.
- Serve with scrambled eggs or hash browns for a full breakfast.
